LAURA'S STORY

I know what it’s like to not fit in the box, to show up in an environment where people are dressed differently and don’t sound or look like I do. I know what it’s like to not know if I’m going to have enough to feed my children, to be living in the middle of nowhere without a car while my husband, battling addiction, has left on a multi-day binge. And I know what it’s like to discover healing, growth, and grace, for myself and with others.

I have worked with people for over thirty years to see beauty spring out of the brokenness of addiction and other personal challenges because that’s what I’ve found. After experiencing the costs of co-dependency and substance use disorders, I became a licensed drug and alcohol counsellor (CADC-II) and began to help individuals and families address challenges and discover healing, self-worth, and new habits. As a recovery and mindsets coach on this platform, I serve as a listener, encourager, sounding board, and suggester of ideas, as I work with people from all backgrounds and worldviews.

My goal is that people would experience hope and wellness. Life presents opportunities to consider how what we believe about ourselves and the world around us can support our goals. I believe that authentic journeys of wellness, spirituality, and recovery do not have to fit in the box. When I first found community and started to heal, I was tired of being beat up by judgment and shame. I wasn’t ready to stop smoking or make some of the healthier choices that I needed to make. But, people loved me so well that my whole life changed as I found real, authentic, loving community, and experienced a spirituality that was powerful, real, and transformative.

Mess does not intimidate me. I don’t care what you’ve done or not done. It’s the fear of the mess that often keeps us from moving forward in our lives.
