STORIES
OF HOPE

LIFE REIMAGINED.

Doug’s Story

I grew up in a small town and felt like the black sheep of my family. Drugs and alcohol became a way for me to cope with feeling different. But, when I got a DUI soon after high school, the friends I thought I had made through partying seemed to fade away.

Early in recovery, a mentor played an important role in helping me establish sobriety and build new processes for handling emotions and challenges. I had someone with whom I could talk about the challenges I was facing, and I began to find community that supported me, no matter what.

Early in recovery, a mentor played an important role in helping me establish sobriety and build new processes for handling emotions and challenges.

Recovery gave me the tools and courage to pursue my passion in life. I began to discover how much my heart comes alive through design. It’s a language I can express myself through. Today, I live in New York City and work with leading design companies. I have a wife I love and community that I get to share real connection with.

Recovery invited me on a spiritual journey. My faith has become a foundation for life, and connected me to unconditional love and grace that has changed how I view myself and empowered me to continue to grow, one step at time.
